Lee Thornburg - Owner and President of Metroplex Tennis
Metroplex Tennis was founded in 2009 by Lee Thornburg, a lifelong tennis enthusiast and
experienced executive dedicated to growing the game at every level. After retiring as President
of Lone Star Pictures International Company, Inc., a Texas-based motion picture company
operating in Hollywood, California, Lee brought his leadership, organizational expertise, and
passion for tennis to McKinney, Texas—establishing what has become one of the most respected
tournament organizations in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
As President of Metroplex Tennis, Lee has led the nonprofit organization in successfully hosting
hundreds of USTA, ITF, and UTR tournaments, providing competitive, well-organized, and
welcoming events for players of all ages and skill levels. Over the years, thousands of players
have competed in Metroplex Tennis tournaments, helping strengthen and expand the regional
tennis community.
A former competitive player himself, Lee achieved a national ranking of No. 25 in the Men’s
60 Division. He is also a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association
(USPTA) and has taught tennis throughout his career. His extensive knowledge of USTA rules
and regulations has made him a trusted Tournament Director for numerous national-level
USTA events.
Lee has generously volunteered his time serving on USTA Adult/Senior Competitive, Junior, and
Officials committees and as a board member of the Metroplex Tennis Officials Association,
supporting the training and development of certified officials. In recognition of his service, he
was honored with the 2014 Texas USTA Ray DeCasillo Official of the Year Award.
Today, Lee Thornburg and Metroplex Tennis remain committed to delivering exceptional
tournament experiences and continuing to grow the sport of tennis across Texas and beyond.
